Beauty and the Beast

Something that I thought that was interesting in both versions was the fact that the story seemed to share elements with many different fairy tales. For example, the fact that there were three sisters, two of whom were "evil," seemed similar to Cinderella. The mirror, while considered part of many Beauty and the Beast stories, is present in Snow White. These are just a couple of examples of the shared themes.

  1. Likewise, I found it interesting how the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast had several nods to fairy tales, specifically ones that Disney had already made versions of. At the beginning when Belle goes to the bookshop and gets a copy of her "favorite," that is all about a grand adventure and a handsome prince, but also much less obviously. In the scene where Gaston goes to Belle's house to propose and she rejects him, sending him tumbling off the porch and into a mud pit, I couldn't help but recall the the King Pig story, where three women are married to a pig (different situation, but interesting to think about.)
